Often Minimal

Beginning in 2013, Often Minimal has served as a meditative practice that focuses on the rudimentary building blocks of visual aesthetics. Each illustration is approached with a clear mind and the intent to return back to some of the basic forms of design: color, shape, space, balance and scale. Acting as a creative cleanse, these illustrations keep the practice of design minimal and focused, while jump starting the creative process.

Making intentionally minimal work in an age of maximalism is more about the performance art of it, rather than the product: a painful act of restraint, constantly questioning, doubting and fighting the urge to embellish or make extravagant. It is a statement of: Just This, Is Enough.

Over the years, this project has gone through various evolutions, an abstract period, a noir period, and perhaps even a marketable period. Not fully at a close, I return to it seasonally when in need for minimal meditation.
